This appetizer is for obvious reasons super easy to make. So the only thing you can mess up with this appetizer is the look of it. Remember that the look of an appetizer is half the “meal”.
It is important when you make this appetizer that the watermelon is a good tasty ripe one. So here is a quick tip on how to find a tasty watermelon:
- Green Stem. If the melon still has a bit of its stem attached at one end, make sure it is green and not dried out and brown. …
- Ground Spot. When a watermelon is ripe, you’ll see a patch of white or yellow rind on its underside.
- Smooth Skin. Give the rind a close inspection on all sides.
- Hollow Sound.
- Nice and Heavy.
When you choose feta I would recommend that you choose a block of cheese and cut the feta yourself. When you choose a feta cheese you have two options to choose from. The first one is feta made from sheep milk. Feta cheese made from sheep milk is also the one with the sharpest taste.
Second feta cheese is one made from goat milk. Feta made from goat milk is milder in taste. Which one you choose is up to you and how you like your feta cheese.
I like to sprinkle my watermelon and feta appetizers with mint leaves. I also like to use balsamic glaze on the plate I serve the appetizers on. Balsamic glaze is optional but does present the appetizer visual in a better way.
Wine pairing watermelon and feta appetizer.
I would recommend a nice sparkling rosé for the appetizer but wine is not an exact science. If you like another wine with this appetizer this is just my recommendation
